Disposable Hygiene Supplies

What to Consider When Choosing Hygiene Supplies

Disposable and auxiliary hygiene supplies can be used to meet different needs in food, manufacturing, healthcare, cleaning and similar working environments. Shoe covers, bouffant caps, caps and other hygiene products should be assessed by area of use, pack quantity, material and product type.

Short answer: First identify the area of use, then compare product type, pack quantity, material and method of use. Do not reuse products labelled as disposable contrary to the manufacturer's instructions.

What should you look for when choosing shoe covers?

With shoe covers, pack quantity, fit over footwear and area of use are important. Do not assume a product provides specific liquid, chemical or mechanical protection simply because it is called a "shoe cover".

Using bouffant caps and caps

Bouffant caps or caps may be preferred in working environments where keeping hair contained is important. Assess product type, material and wearing comfort together with the working environment.

Packaging and storage of disposable products

Before ordering, check the pack quantity, packaging integrity and any storage conditions. For disposable products, do not assume they can be reused or washed unless the manufacturer clearly states so.

Hygiene Products Are Not the Same as PPE

Bouffant caps, shoe covers and similar products used for hygiene purposes are not necessarily personal protective equipment (PPE). Where a specific risk exists, suitable and certified protective equipment for that risk should be assessed separately.
